Revelle Hamilton
A native of Long Island, New York, Revelle Hamilton began her career as a fashion designer after graduating from the Fashion Institute (FIT) in New York City. Twenty years later she traded fashion for jeans, moved to rural Virginia and began to pursue her interest in visual art. She took classes with Eloise Gardiner Giles on Long Island for 3 years, drawing with Claude Ponsot, and has since taken workshops with nationally known artists yearly. In addition to water media she also paints in oils, dry and oil pastels. She has won numerous awards in juried exhibitions, including Best of Show in Smith Mountain Arts Council's 2003 Exhibition.
Revelle has had an annual solo exhibition at Moncure's Frame Gallery in Bedford, VA since 1986. Henderson's Furniture in Forest carries her paintings also. She has been an Artist Member of the Virginia Watercolor Society since 1983. She exhibited annually with The Virginia Eight, a group of artist friends, from 1987 until 2007.
She is currently teaching classes in watermedia from her home. She began teaching in the early 1980s and has taught at The Lynchburg Fine Arts Center (now the Academy of Fine Art), at Studios in the Square in Roanoke, and the Sedalia Center.
Revelle currently shares her life with a lively Corgi and she enjoys being out in the vegetable garden in the summer.
